A man accused of attacking a woman on the Clive Greenbelt Trail in August received his sentence Tuesday.

Judge Robert Hanson gave 20-year-old Robert Goodenough a suspended sentence.

Goodenough will serve five years of probation and was issued a no-contact order. The judge said Goodenough is not allowed to go to walking or bike trails.

Goodenough faced several charges after the incident, including assault with a dangerous weapon.

In November, he agreed to plead guilty to willful injury.

Hanson told Goodenough in court that, “an easy solution would be to put you away, but that is just kicking the can down the road.”

The judge suggested that Goodenough seek treatment for serious mental health problems instead.
