If you’ve ever thought about introducing your kids to mountain biking on trails, you won’t want to miss this opportunity. (Even if you’ve never thought about it before this moment, no problem. You’re invited, too.) Central Iowa Trail Association (CITA) will sponsor Take Your Kid Mountain Biking Day on Saturday at Grandview Park, 2300 E. 32nd St., where kids of all ages will get to ride local trails with some new friends and learn about the trail system. Volunteers will also work with kids on skill development, according to their mountain biking experience.

CITA members will teach trail riding etiquette and how they can help maintain trails, such as by leaving no trace and never scaring the animals. Then they will head out and enjoy a bike ride. Free drinks and snacks will be available for all participants. The event will begin at 9 a.m.

CITA is a non-profit organization and a local chapter of the International Mountain Biking Association that designs, builds and maintains trails. Those currently maintained by CITA include Banner Lakes at Summerset State Park in Norwalk, Center Trails at Greenwood City Park, Ewing Trails at Ewing City Park and Sycamore Trails at Sycamore Park in Johnston. Find out trail conditions, including which are open and closed, before heading out to any CITA trails by checking their mobile site at centraliowatrails.com. You can also find downloadable maps and directions to each of the sites, as well as information on how you can become a volunteer to help upkeep the trails.
