Heather Wince takes risks running cyclocross obstacle courses for
fun, so she never thought her worst crash would happen in a marked,
metro bike lane on a bright Sunday morning.
Wince, 50, of Des
Moines was riding in front of her husband, who pulled his 5-year-old son
in a cart behind his bike. It was 4:05 p.m. March 22, on a route she
takes almost daily from work at the Capitol complex to her home in the
Drake University neighborhood.
Suddenly, a driver in a silver Audi turned into a parking lot, smashing her front wheel and vaulting her into the car door.
