A collision between a van and a young boy on a bike in Iowa Saturday might have resulted in tragedy.

But a quick-thinking motorist sprang into action, possibly saving the boy from serious injury.

And the motorist's kindness didn't stop there. He also started a pool to replace the boy's destroyed bicycle.

It’s a miracle nine-year-old Cody is riding this bike.

And its equally astonishing he even has one to ride on.

Saturday would be the last day the two spent together, because he was on a bike ride with his mother's boyfriend at this Cedar Falls intersection when Cody was struck by a van. "And he rolled a couple times," Nick Chapin, Cody's mother's boyfriend said. A terrifying situation for all involved, and perhaps it was the adrenaline rush, but Zach Hardy felt it was his time to do something.
