The High Trestle Trail is getting a new food option in Madrid, IA next to the Flat Tire Lounge. The Hotel Pattee has partnered with the Flat Tire Lounge to extend food service to the High Trestle Trail. The Frontier Shack named after a dining car on the "City of Denver" train is moving to its new home on the trail on March 24th.
The Hotel Pattee’s Frontier Shack is a tribute to the original Frontier Shack, a dining car on the “City of Denver” train that ran from Chicago to Denver.
Train history is a large part of the Hotel Pattee. In David’s Milwaukee Diner, the dining areas are inspired by a railroad depot restaurant.
The expansion of the bike trails in Iowa as a result of Rails-To-Trails, created a natural connection as the Hotel Pattee expands its food service to the High Trestle Trail to order to connect the ideas of railroads, cycling and history.
The passenger train “City of Denver” made its first trip between Chicago and Denver in June of 1936. The train traveled 1,048 miles in 16 hours. It was the fastest long-distance train in the world. The refreshment car on the train was the Frontier Shack. Designed in an Old West theme with pictures of cowboys, wanted posters, and memories of the frontier.
