This Sunday Sept. 8, residents of Mitchell County will have
the opportunity to take a golf cart ride down a path normally reserved
for other modes of transportation.
The Wapsi-Great Western Line Trail committee will be hosting "Golf Cart" Day this Sunday, from 2 - 6 p.m.
"It
is the quiet golf cart gliding down the path that allows you to sit
back and see the beauty of Iowa on this trail," said Elaine Govern,
Trail Coordinator.
Riders can start at the Trailhead Welcome
Center located at 110 Main Street in Riceville or start at the north end
of the trail by going west out of Riceville, turn right on Walnut Ave
(T62) for eight miles then turn west on 485th Street and go
approximately 1/4 mile to the trail.
This site is the ghost town of Bailey.
The trail's distance one-way is 11 miles.
Parking is available at both sites to unload a golf cart and then travel from either direction.
Cost to drive your golf cart is $3 for the afternoon.
Govern said to be certain to purchase a pass because individuals would be checking for the pass.
Those found without a pass would be liable for a $20 fine.
"Be sure your cart is fueled or charged for the distance if you wish to travel the full-length of the trail," said Govern.
"No ATVs are allowed on the trail. Also, bikers and pedestrians will be using the trail."
In
addition to the golf cart event, volunteers will be hosting a "Pie
Sunday at the Trail" with various slices of fruit pies being served
until gone.
The Delores Bucheit Summer Art Show at the Trailhead Gallery will also close on this day.
Bucheit will be at the Trailhead from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. for a special "Meet and Greet."
"This
is a wonderful way to end the summer," said Govern. "We would invite
everyone in Mitchell County to come and enjoy a treasured tradition
right here in northeast Iowa."
