FYI, the McFarlane Bridge was severely damaged during the 2008
flood. It was torn down and replaced.

This just in from the Blackhawk County Conservation Commission:

Rick, the McFarlane Bridge is done and open to be used. We are
having the Grand Opening on Saturday, May 4th. It starts at 11AM and
the dedication is at 1PM there will be Live Music and
Refreshments. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

The City of La Porte City and BHC Conservation are planning this Bridge to Bridge dedication event for May 4. We are giving you the destination and a time to be there. We are hoping for as many individuals, families and teams to coordinate their own starting starting point anywhere along the trail depending on your groups location and skill (fun) level. The Scramblers will be playing at McFarlane Park from 11am to 1:00pm. At 1:00 the ribbon cutting and bridge dedication will take place. The La Porte City Fire/Rescue team will be serving a $5 pulled pork sandwich meal during this time too. We are looking forward to the first summer in five years that the entire 52 mile Cedar Valley Nature Trail will be open for business again!

We'll be there! Hopefully the Muscatine MelonHeads will be there too! We are thrilled! We were going to go on the High Trestle Trail that weekend, but we're going to the opening of the Cedar Valley Nature Trail instead. I hope Team Cornpone puts on their April Fool's Ride! We ride on the trail or on parallel roads between Brandon and La Porte City, depending on the condition of the trail.
