The Iowa Cycling Development Foundation was formed to support the development of young racers in all disciplines.

The Board of Directors are proud to announce the formation of the Iowa Cycling Development Foundation, a recognized IRS 501c3 public charity dedicated to the support and development of Iowa juniors (thru age 18) and Iowa espoirs (thru age 22) bike racers. The foundation will work to support riders from all disciplines, including Road, MTB and BMX. The mission of the foundation is to develop young Iowa athletes for potential national and international competition under the umbrella of USA Cycling.

Much of the initial funding for the foundation came from supporters of, and funds from the DMOS/RDMB Race Team. But of course, we would like to broaden the base of support so there will sufficient funds available to assist juniors from across the state. So far in 2010 the foundation has disbursed more than $2,000 in support to junior riders.

Juniors requesting support must be licensed with USA Cycling. They also need to have a specific event or camp in mind; there are no general grants. Support is always a portion of the total cost, juniors and/or parents/supporters are also expected to contribute. At this time since the foundation is new, funding is very limited. Juniors may also apply to the USA Cycling Development Foundation for travel grants, details are at www.USACDF.org .

Donations to the Iowa Cycling Development Foundation are often tax deductable (of course, check with your tax preparer or the regulations). Profit from the upcoming Green Days Criterium being held in Johnston on June 19 will be donated to the general fund of the ICDF. Donations to the ICDF may be earmarked to support a specific team's junior program; disbursement of the earmarked funds from the foundation will only be made to that team if they have a licensed junior or espoir attached to their team at the time of disbursement.

For more information about donating to the ICDF, requesting assistance, or offering to get involved, contact Randy Catron at randycatron at mchsi.com . Also on the board of directors are Cindy DuBois, Jeff Mertz, Pat O'Bryan, and Dave Dean. Two more directors will be elected later this year.
