Des Moines B-Cycle Bike Share Presentation on ICN October 2nd. The Iowa Great Places Program along with Friends of Central Iowa Trails, Iowa Outdoor Magazine, Department of Natural Resources, and the Iowa Bicycle Coalition announced today that Andrew Davison, the Chief Marketing Officer of B-cycle in North America, will be in Des Moines for a presentation on October 2nd. This presentation may be attended in person at the Iowa Finance Authority ICN classroom at 2015 Grand Ave. or via the ICN in various locations around Iowa. This session will be held from 11:00 a.m. till 1:00 p.m. Mr. Davison will be met at the Des Moines airport and will be united with one of the GPS equipped “B-cycles,” and guided to his hotel by local trail and cycling enthusiasts. The B-cycle bike was specially designed by Trek to be easy for inexperienced riders to use and rugged enough for fleet operation. The bike features three or eight speeds, front and rear lights, and a sturdy basket that can carry up to 30 pounds of personal belongings. It’s perfect for getting people of all shapes, sizes, and levels of bicycling experience around town. Personalized B-cycle web pages provide detailed information to its users on each ride: distance traveled, calories burned, and carbon offset. Mr. Davison will be addressing current and aspiring Great Places communities and other interested parties. Francis Boggus, Iowa Great Places Coordinator, stated, “Most of our Great Places and Great Place applicants stress connectivity and trails. The B-cycle program may be of assistance in them reaching their vision and we are excited to facilitate this workshop.” Currently Cedar Falls has a plan calling for the system, but B-cycle representatives expect many other communities to join them after Denver and Minneapolis adopt the system in the spring of 2010.
