Just in case you on not on the BIKEIOWA Ride Reminder list, here is the latest...

Let's see... It's January in Iowa. We've just had two weeks of negative temps, tons of snow and I'm about to list off a HUGE list of cycling activities going on this weekend around Iowa! It's like its the middle of July again! (figuratively speaking of course!) These are just some highlighted events. Check out the Event Calendar for all the events going on. Note some of these events are not on the BIKEIOWA calendar, but they are either featured or listed on the news section.

It's time to be thinking about the 2009 cycling season! BIKEIOWA is still updated several times a week and always has the latest on what's happening on two wheels in Iowa! Here is a rundown of this weekend's activities:

Thursday Jane 23rd
IowaBikeDay on the Hill - 8:00 AM – 12 Noon, State Capitol, Des Moines. Sponsored by the Iowa Bicycle Coalition.

Friday Jan 23rd
Iowa Bicycle Summit (Engineers & Planners Sessions)
Moines 8:30am– 4:30pm

Friday January 23rd 6pm Gary Fisher will be at the local showing of the movie Klunkerz at the West Des Moines Learning Center, 3550 George Mills Civic Parkway (Next to the West Des Moines Library). A voluntary tax deductible donation of $5 to the Iowa Bicycle Coalition is requested.

Saturday Jan 24th
Have breakfast with Gary Fisher from 8 – 9:30am. A free continental breakfast will be held at Ramsey Subaru in Urbandale. Come eat, and meet Gary, and have a chance to win a new Fisher bike that will be given away that morning by Ramsey Subaru.

Bike World West will host a "meet and greet" with Gary Fisher "the man". Come see Gary and the bikes that made him famous. 11am to 2:30pm

Iowa Bicycle Summit (Cyclists & Advocates Sessions)
Holiday Inn Mercy Campus, Des Moines - 9:00am– 5:00pm
The Saturday Workshop is geared towards grassroots bicyclists who want to better their communities. Find sessions on Safe Routes To Schools, Bike to Work Week, the University of Iowa HANK simulator, the upcoming Federal Transportation Bill.

LIVESTRONG ARMY at Jordan Creek in West Des Moines 10am - 7pm. Join us for free demonstrations, door prizes. You'll also be able to talk with cancer professionals. There will be roller race demonstrations too. Mark you calendars for June 7th 2009. It's the LIVESTRONG RIDE and you can register online through bikeiowa.com

Des Moines Bicycle Collective’s Sale of Collectible Bikes
Noon to 5 pm. The Des Moines Bicycle Collective has about 50-60 vintage bikes that are available to purchase the weekend of the Iowa Bike Summit and RAGBRAI January Meeting for Clubs and Teams. These are mostly older Schwinns (50s, 60s, 70s) that the Bike Collective is selling as is.

Gary Fisher will be the featured speaker at the Iowa Coalition's Bike Night. The BIKE NIGHT dinner and social is held in conjunction with the Iowa Bicycle Summit. That night's events will be held at the Downtown Holiday Inn in Des Moines. Limited tickets still available.

Sunday Jan 25th
General Meeting of RAGBRAI Clubs & Teams

LIVESTRONG ARMY at Jordan Creek in West Des Moines 11am -5pm.

Sat February 7th is a special day too!
BRR Ride 2009! Registration is now open. This is the place to be on Saturday Feb 7th 2009. BRR, 32 Years strong - so BRRing it On! This ride is held regardless of weather. One of my favorite bands "Mr. Baber's Neighbors" is playing in Perry from 2-5pm on one of the bars. More to come. You gotta vote on this months" BIKEIOWA BRR poll !
