By Mary Zielinski 06/23/2008 Two contracts for county road work, one on Vine Avenue, near Riverside, and one for a bridge replacement on Underwood Avenue, south of Ainsworth, were awarded June 18. Manatts Inc. of Brooklyn received the $661,104 contract for paving 1.5 miles on Vine Avenue, north of Highway 22, in Riverside. The project will see reconstructing of Vine Avenue by placing six inches of concrete on existing paving, including six inches of integrated paved shoulders to provide a recreational trail connection. Johnson County plans to overlay Vine Avenue from the Washington County line to Iowa City, creating the first trail link from Washington County to Iowa City. The Washington County Riverboat Foundation (WCRF) awarded a $100,000 grant to the project last month. The rest of the estimated $771,000 cost will be paid by the Washington County Farm-to-Market funds (70 percent) and the City of Riverside (30 percent).
