From the Office of Sheriff Kevin Glendening:
On June 24, 2026, at approximately 7:51p.m., Des Moines County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 15000 block of Mediapolis Rd. for a truck that struck a bicyclist and left the scene of the accident. Deputies were advised that a dark colored truck had struck the victim and never stopped to render aid or a report the accident. The victim was transported to the hospital for severe bruising and pain caused by the accident.
During the investigation, Deputies were able to determine the suspect vehicle was a blue Ford F150 truck.
On July 10, 2026, Deputies spoke with Kole Perkins who was known to own a truck matching the description of the suspect vehicle. During the interview, Perkins admitted he was driving his truck on June 24th and he knew had struck someone with the truck on Mediapolis Rd. Perkins advised he knew the victim may have been seriously injured or dead as a result of the accident. Perkins admitted he never stopped to render aid or call anyone to check on the victim.
On July 10, 2026, Kole William Perkins, age 28, of Middletown, IA was placed under arrest for Knowingly Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Serious Injury, a class D Felony. Perkins was transported to the Des Moines County Correctional Center.
A CRIMINAL CHARGE IS MERELY AN ACCUSATION AND THE DEFENDANT IS PRESUMED INNOCENT UNTIL AND UNLESS PROVEN GUILTY.
