The city has received numerous complaints and observed growing frustration on local social media about mini-bikes being operated on our streets and sidewalks. Mini-bikes may not be operated on Sioux City streets, alleys, parks, trails, sidewalks, or any other city-owned property.
These Vehicles are not street legal!
They pose a serious safety risk - not just to the rider, but also to the public, who are justifiably concerned about potentially striking an operator due to the bike’s low visibility and lack of vehicle and rider safety equipment. In addition, loud mini-bikes are an undeniable annoyance to our citizens and your neighbors, disturbing the peace as riders motor down our normally quiet side streets.
Officers have been instructed to patrol for violations and take enforcement action, which may include:
• Citations
• Vehicle impoundment
• Traffic misdemeanor summons or even arrest
There are NO lawful exceptions for mini-bike use on public ways. Please do your part to help keep our community a comfortable and enjoyable one!
