The City of Ankeny has approved stricter regulations surrounding electronic bikes, scooters, and similar devices.
Approving a 20 mph speed limit on trails, bicycle lanes, paths, and sidewalks. E-bikers say they’re all for the regulations to help keep people safe.
“When you’re a pedestrian, you get intimidated by a lot of vehicles that have engines and can accelerate pretty quickly, and that can take you by surprise,” said e-bike rider Matthias Gabben.
“Anything over 20 mph, you’re risking other people. Kids use the bike trails as well as adults, and if you’re going that fast, you can’t react quickly enough, and for your own safety, if you hit a bump or something you couldn’t see, the faster you go, the more it’s going to cause damage,” said e-bike rider Todd Welch.
