A child riding an e-bicycle was seriously hurt after crashing into a car Monday evening.
Cedar Falls Police responded to the crash at the intersection of Greenhill Road and Prairie Parkway around 5:54 p.m. The child was riding on the recreational trail along the south side of Greenhill Road when they entered the intersection and hit the side of a 2019 Hyundai Tucson.
Police say the Tucson was traveling south on Prairie Parkway and went through the intersection with a green light. The child was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The child was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. Police are asking parents and guardians to talk with their children about riding e-bicycles safely.
"Please remind them to slow down, always wear a helmet, and follow all traffic signs and signals," police said in a statement.
Police also reminded drivers to watch for more people walking and biking as the weather warms up. Cedar Falls Fire/Rescue, MercyOne Paramedics and Black Hawk County Consolidated Communications helped at the scene.
