A disturbing incident involving a cyclist in Waterloo has led to the arrest of a local man, with reports indicating the situation may have been intentional.
According to multiple reports, the incident occurred around 1:45 PM on Sunday, March 23 near the intersection of Conger Street and Logan Avenue.
Authorities say a 25-year-old Waterloo man allegedly pursued a cyclist in a vehicle before striking the rider. Following the crash, individuals from the vehicle reportedly exited and assaulted the cyclist.
The cyclist sustained a leg injury. The driver has been charged with Assault While Displaying a Weapon, and the case remains under investigation.
Not Just a Crash
Unlike many bike-related incidents, this situation is being treated as more than a collision. Reports suggest this may have been a targeted act, escalating into physical assault after impact.
BIKEIOWA’s Perspective
This is the kind of incident that hits hard.
Cyclists are vulnerable by nature - but no one should have to worry about being targeted while riding. This goes beyond awareness and into accountability.
We continue to advocate for safer roads, stronger protections, and a culture where cyclists are respected - not endangered.
We’ll share updates as more information becomes available.
