Over a hundred kids in Eastern Iowa are set to get a special Christmas present this year; Their very own bicycle.
Sunday, more than a dozen volunteers gathered at Chain Reaction Bike Hub for their annual Bike Drive.
“This opportunity, it’s really nice. It’s something that I can take pride in, making sure that the bikes that I’m fixing up are something that a kid would enjoy receiving,” volunteer Cora Kerwin said.
Kerwin was just 8 years old when she found a special bike under her family’s Christmas tree.
“It was hot pink,” Kerwin said. “It had really nice stickers on it, and it was really cute,” she said.
Now Kerwin is helping other kids feel that same Christmas magic this holiday season.
“I know there’s no place they’d rather be than in the shop today where they’re working on bikes, knowing that that’s where these bikes are going to end up,” Chain Reaction Bike Hub’s Executive Director Evan Schmidtke said.
This is Chain Reaction’s third year giving away bikes, and it’s only continuing to grow.
