A record-setting surplus fuels donations to nonprofits, schools, service clubs, and community projects
When RAGBRAI LII rolled into Guttenberg in July 2025, it brought more than cyclists, riverfront energy, and overnight excitement - it created a lasting community impact that continued well after riders reached the Mississippi.
Following months of planning and a successful overnight celebration, the Guttenberg RAGBRAI 2025 Committee announced a remarkable milestone:
A surplus of more than $200,000 - all donated back to Guttenberg-area nonprofits and community groups.
This makes Guttenberg one of the most generous host towns of RAGBRAI LII and a shining example of what happens when a community rallies behind the ride.
A Community Effort With Community Rewards
RAGBRAI’s overnight stops rely heavily on volunteers, churches, youth groups, service clubs, city crews, and countless behind-the-scenes helpers. Guttenberg delivered all of that and more.
The overnight stop:
-
Boosted the local economy
-
Showcased Guttenberg’s scenic riverfront and welcoming atmosphere
-
Created national visibility for the community
-
Strengthened partnerships across dozens of local organizations
The end result: a six-figure surplus reinvested directly into the people and groups who made it all happen.
Awards & Donation Ceremony - Completed September 10, 2025
Guttenberg held its official Awards Ceremony onWednesday, September 10, 2025,where community groups gathered at the Guttenberg Municipal Building to receive their donations.
The event highlighted:
-
Dozens of volunteer groups
-
Thousands of hours of community service
-
The impact RAGBRAI’s overnight stop had on youth programs, emergency services, local clubs, and community projects
Dozens of checks were distributed, each representing real work, real community involvement, and real benefit.
Who Benefited?
While the full list includes a wide range of local partners, donations went to community groups such as:
-
Fire & EMS departments
-
Youth sports and boosters
-
School organizations
-
Church groups
-

Service clubs (Lions, Rotary, Kiwanis, etc.)
-

These organizations provided volunteers, logistics support, fundraising, hosting, entertainment, and essential services during the overnight stop.
There are individual posts on the "Guttenburg RAGBRAI Facebook Group" listing most of the recipients.
(The full list of recipients and donation amounts was announced at the September 10 ceremony.)
More Than a Bike Ride - A Community Investment
Guttenberg’s RAGBRAI success reinforces a crucial point:
RAGBRAI works when everyone registers - riders, teams, support drivers, and charter users alike.
Host towns depend on registration revenue to cover expenses, reimburse services, and generate the surplus that fuels community investment.
Guttenberg’s $200,000+ give-back is exactly what BIKEIOWA explored in our in-depth Feature:

-
Why support services matter
-
How registration dollars are distributed
-
And how communities like Guttenberg can succeed when the system works
Guttenberg is a case study in how RAGBRAI can transform a town- not just economically, but socially and civically.
