Two giant bike sculptures that first turned heads during RAGBRAI’s 50th anniversary ride now greet cyclists every day—installed permanently along a popular trail in Muscatine.
Monumental Bikes, Local Spirit
Crafted by employees at Muscatine Power & Water’s power plant, the sculptures stand 14 feet tall and stretch 23 feet long. Originally displayed in Riverside Park during RAGBRAI, they were later stored and have now been relocated to Duncan Park, along the city’s trail system near the intersection of Houser and Hershey.
Their new placement ensures great visibility to both trail users and visitors entering Muscatine. “To have the entire community and visitors enjoy the bike sculptures is a real win-win,” said Erika Cox, Director of Customer & Technology Experience for MPW.
More Than Public Art
These aren’t just photo ops — they’re a statement about Muscatine’s identity and love for cycling. City officials see them as symbols of creativity, community, and connection to the region’s trails and Mississippi River heritage.
Rich Klimes, Muscatine Parks & Rec Director, called the sculptures “a perfect fit” for the park and trail environment. “They connect directly with our trail system, add a splash of color and creativity, and give families, cyclists, and visitors one more reason to stop and enjoy Muscatine.”
Mayor Brad Bark echoed the sentiment: “These bikes represent Muscatine at its best: innovative, fun, and connected to the river and trails that make our community special.”
