A Kalona woman was hospitalized after a pickup truck struck her on an e-bike the morning of Sept. 3.
An officer’s preliminary accident report released by Washington County said e-bike rider Sharon Hershberger was traveling east on Highway 22 when driver Gerardo Obregon turned left from the westbound lane, attempting to enter the Sinclair Tractor parking lot in Kalona. The collision totaled Hershberger’s bike and left Obregon’s pickup with “minor cosmetic damage” according to the report.
The report said Hershberger was “thrown off the bicycle and [sustained] multiple injuries.”
While police records said Hershberger was transported to the University of Iowa Hospital by a Washington County ambulance Sept. 3, her condition a week later is unclear.
Gerardo was cited with a failure to yield and failure to provide proof of insurance, according to court records.
