A bicyclist is seriously hurt after being hit by a car in Winneshiek County last Thursday.
According to the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred as a driver was traveling north on Locust Road Thursday afternoon. A bicyclist was also riding north when the driver attempted to pass her, hitting her in the process.
The driver, identified as Burton Gavle, said he thought he moved over enough to avoid the bicyclist. However, as he was passing, he heard a noise, and returned to the scene after realizing he had hit her.
Another person also saw the bicyclist laying on the ground following the incident and called 911. The driver stayed on scene until law enforcement arrived.
