RynoVelo to Close After Five Years Serving the Central Iowa Cycling Community

After five years of serving the Central Iowa cycling community, RynoVelo Bike Shop in Uptown Ankeny has announced it will be closing its doors. Owners Ryan Blane and Brian Ritter shared the difficult decision this week, expressing deep gratitude for the riders, families, and community members who have supported the shop since opening in 2020.

Located just south of the Ankeny Market & Pavilion (AMP) and steps from the High Trestle Trail, RynoVelo quickly became a trusted stop for cyclists of all kinds - from triathletes and gravel grinders to casual riders and families.

More Than Just a Bike Shop

RynoVelo offers(ed)a full range of bikes- road, gravel, triathlon, mountain, hybrids, and e-bikes - along with apparel, accessories, and nutrition products. As the local Felt dealer, the shop carved out a reputation for its specialty in triathlon and gravel bikes, while also stocking top brands like Cervélo, Cannondale, Pearl Izumi, Shimano, Garmin, Tacx, Zipp, CamelBak, Skratch Labs, Base Performance, and Maurtennutrition.

But RynoVelo was more than just retail. The shop was known for its comprehensive service department, where customers could stop in for anything from a quick flat fix to a full drivetrain overhaul. They also offered bike fitting, mobile repair, and pick-up/drop-off service- making it easy for busy cyclists to keep their rides dialed in.

Experienced Owners, Deep Community Ties

Owners Ryan and Brian brought a combined 20 years of bicycle industry experience to RynoVelo. Both previously worked at Barr Bike in Clive, and Ryan also spent time at Scheels and Bike World before stepping into shop ownership. In addition, Ryan has coached with Zoom Performance, helping athletes improve on the bike.

Beyond the shop walls, Ryan and Brian also gave back to the cycling community by running the Elkhardt Time Trial Series for the past two years- keeping alive one of Central Iowa’s longest-running weeknight race traditions and providing a grassroots platform for local riders to test their speed.

Their experience and enthusiasm made RynoVelo a cornerstone in the Ankeny cycling scene, offering not only gear and service, but also a welcoming space for trail users, racers, and new riders alike.

A Thank You and a Closing Sale

As part of their farewell, RynoVelo will host a storewide closing sale, giving customers one last chance to shop local while saying goodbye in person. The shop will close on September 21st 2025.

“We’re extremely grateful for the community we’ve built and the customers who have supported us along the way,” the owners shared. “As we say goodbye, this sale is our way of thanking you.”
