During RAGBRAI’s final day on Saturday, a rider was struck by a motorcyclist in Delaware County - a stark reminder that sharing the road must always come with caution and respect.

According to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. along 150th Street north of Manchester. A 59-year-old man operating a Harley-Davidson motorcycle accelerated up a hill into a road crowded with RAGBRAI cyclists. Witnesses report he veered into the opposite lane and yelled at the riders before hitting one from behind.

The cyclist - identified as 37-year-old Carla Sanchez-Melgar of Irving, Texas - sustained minor injuries.

According to reports, the motorcyclist was confronted by a bicyclist following the crash, and stated that he was shoved.

Though injuries were minor, this incident serves as a reminder that RAGBRAI riders take backroads by bicycle, expecting safety, camaraderie, and shared respect - not recklessness.

Stay safe, ride smart, and let’s keep the roads respectful for everyone.
