A southeast Iowa hit-and-run crash, which badly injured a child on a bicycle, remains under investigation.

The tragedy happened just after noon on May 24, 2024, at the four-way intersection of North and Madison streets in Bloomfield.

The Iowa State Patrol says a car driven by Haley Ann Probasco, 42, of Moulton, Iowa, was traveling southbound on Madison Street when she struck a child riding a bicycle.

Investigators say the 12-year-old boy from Bloomfield was crossing the street on his bike when he was hit.

The boy suffered serious injuries and was flown to a Des Moines hospital for treatment.

Troopers said Probasco fled the scene.

The car she was driving was later recovered. It had no license plates and no registration associated with the vehicle.

No charges have been filed at this time because the investigation continues as authorities try to sort out all the details.
