More than a dozen cyclists took part in the annual “Ride of Silence”.

On Wednesday evening, cyclists rode through the streets of Marion and Cedar Rapids with a police escort, highlighting the importance of watching for cyclists on the road, while also advocating for cyclist safety.

TV-9 spoke with Mark Houser of Cedar Rapids, who said while most drivers are safe, close calls still happen.

In recalling a recent incident, Houser said, “the other day I was riding down to the Sundown Ride and a car kind of pulled out, didn’t see me, and I had to slow down really quick and reminded the driver that I almost ran into the back, and she said, oh I’m so sorry.”
