The Trestle Bridge, a well-loved pedestrian and biking link between Okoboji and Arnolds Park, is closed for repairs. Known not just for its scenic lake views but also as a go-to fishing spot, the bridge is undergoing safety upgrades that are expected to last about six weeks.
The closure comes as part of regular maintenance, focusing on worn down wooden components of the bridge. The work is crucial to keep the structure safe and accessible.
In the meantime, trail users will need to take a short detour. An alternative route is available on the sidewalk along the west side of Highway 71. Trail users are encouraged to follow posted signage to stay safe and avoid work zones.
Work on the Trestle Bridge is part of the larger U.S. 71 construction project, which began in the Spring of 2023. This multi-phase project aims to enhance safety and accessibility in the Okoboji and Arnolds Park areas. The project includes replacing pavement, improving sidewalks, and adding new traffic signals to better accommodate both vehicles and pedestrians.
