On May 7th, students across Iowa will join thousands of children nationwide in celebrating Walk Bike Roll to School Day, a fun and active way to kick off the school day. This year, Iowa is leading the way with a record-breaking 120 schools registered to participate, proving that Iowa is serious about safe, healthy, and active transportation for students.

But the celebration isn’t limited to May 7th—schools can participate any day in May, making it easy and flexible for everyone to get involved.

“We’re thrilled to see so many Iowa schools stepping up this year,” said Matt Burkey, the Safe Routes to School Coordinator for the Iowa Bicycle Coalition. “Whether students walk, bike, or roll to school, they build healthy habits, reduce traffic congestion, and have fun.”

There’s still plenty of time to sign up! Anyone can register their school or event at walkbiketoschool.org. The website also offers planning tips, downloadable materials, and ideas to make the day successful.

Walk Bike Roll to School Day is part of a national movement for safe routes to school and active lifestyles for kids of all ages. By participating, schools promote safe walking and biking, raise awareness about traffic safety, and encourage positive change in their communities.
