Rain. Mud. Creek crossings. Gravel. C Roads/Trail. Good people. BIKEIOWA headed to Outland Gravel in Chariton, Iowa for one of southern Iowa's premier gravel events.

After rain on Thursday and Friday - and a little "misting" on race morning - the organizers switched to the rain route, treating riders to an unforgettable mix of gravel, minimum-maintenance roads, and even a creek crossing. 

Would you ride through a creek to finish a gravel race? Outland riders do! 

Hosted by Vance Fletcher, his family, and an outstanding group of volunteers, Outland Gravel continues to be one of Iowa's most fun, low-key, and well-organized gravel races. 

The event kicked off on the Chariton town square, where racers received drink and chocolate tokens as part of their race packets before heading into the beautiful rolling hills of Lucas County. 

A huge thanks to everyone who made the event possible - and to all the riders who came out to tackle the Outland!

Outland

isn’t just a gravel race-it’s a journey to the edges of the known, into a place where the landscape is as wild as the spirit of those who ride it. Set in the remote, rolling terrain of southern Iowa, Outland is a venture into the unknown, where every turn brings riders closer to the raw beauty of Lucas County.

Please note:  You do NOT need a USA Cycling license to register for this event.

Route Info

Don't trust the elevation map, these are uncharted territories. 

This is an adventure gravel race so be ready for all conditions! Race will be held rain or shine, there may be hike a bike, and you will be crossing a river. Race is held late in the summer so water levels should be lower and wet feet should feel nice on a hot day. Be prepared for the unexpected in the outlands.
