R.I.P. Ride is a gravel cycling event rooted in remembrance, resilience, and the quiet beauty of rural roads.
Teams of two will chart their own course to connect pioneer cemeteries scattered throughout the fingers of Stephens State Forest, racing not just the clock but their own decision-making.
There is no marked course and no official route. One week before the event, teams will receive a list of required checkpoints that must be visited in any order. On race day, two additional mandatory stops will be randomly selected and announced, adding an element of chance that rewards adaptability and smart strategy.
Navigation, teamwork, and self-sufficiency are essential. This is a ride that values preparation, respect for the land, and the stories it holds. Come ready to think, ride, and earn every mile.

R.I.P. Ride Details
Mandatory Stops
These will be released 1 week before the start of the event. This gives you time to grab a beer with your teammate and create a couple of route options.
Day of the event we will draw 2 more mandatory stops out of a hat. Quick wits will be rewarded.
Protecting the Places We Ride
All proceeds from this event will be donated to Lucas County Conservation, whose team does an outstanding job stewarding the landscapes we ride through. From restoring wetlands to caring for the beloved Cinder Path, we are fortunate to have such dedicated caretakers protecting Lucas County’s natural treasures. We encourage you to stop by Pin Oak Lodge while you’re in the area to learn more about the wildlife and ecosystems that make these woods so special. Your participation helps support the people and places that make this event possible.
Distance
Expect the ride to be ~40 miles.
Maybe more. Maybe less.
Maybe you don't even want to ride to all of the stops, I don't care. You make the ride what you want out of it. I'll be waiting at the Williamson Tavern with a cold one to hear your stories.
Will you nail the navigation… or will you be riding around without a head?
Navigation (read this part):
I highly recommend creating multiple route options. Cemeteries will be added day of, and flexibility is key. We’ll be deep in the hills and hollers, where phone reception can be spotty at best.
- Download your maps ahead of time
- Have a backup route (or two)
- Yes… consider bringing an old-fashioned paper map
There are 27 possible cemeteries. Check out the map HERE
Aid Station: Stone King Cemetery
You’ll find snacks, drinks, and possibly a rescue ride if everything goes sideways.
It’s 10 miles from the Williamson Tavern and centrally located, so plan your route accordingly if you think you’ll need it. There are stories of Stone King being haunted so this stop is at your own risk.
