Spring in Iowa, cold, hot, windy, calm, sunny, rainy, and of course snow. No weather is off the table. Welcome to the Pella Roubaix. Modeled after the European spring classics housed over Northern Europe, this event is sure to challenge you physically as much as mentally. Although it does not boast the cobbles of the French countryside, it will take you through the rolling hillside of multiple counties in south central Iowa. This is a multi-surface venture of both gravel and county paved roads alternating back and forth throughout the ride.
The ride will have a mass start at Iowa Bike Co. in downtown Pella starting at 10 AM. There will be a neutral roll out of town. Riders can register for either the Men's or Women's Open A or B, Masters, The Merckx, or Teams categories as well as a Gran Fondo. Open A should consist of more serious racers such as Category 1/2/3's. Whereas the Open B should be more casual or your novice/beginner level categories, such as 4/5's. The Merckx category carries with it equipment restrictions. Teams will consist of teams of 4 and riders will be scored individually for an overall team score. The Gran Fondo will consist of a 56 km loop and is much less competitive. The longer course will be roughly 110km. Both will end outside of Pella. This is a self-supported ride and you are responsible for you. There will be opportunities for stops along the way if necessary as well as a checkpoint on course. Awards will be presented for top 3 in each category. Courses will be sent to registered riders prior to start as well as further details.
