Our friend Carl Voss is running for Des Moines City council.
Carl is a DSM Bicycle Collective co-founder, a LONG-TIME bike advocate through thick and thin, Ragbrai verteran, Bike Week/Month Organizer, Bike Builder and a generous volunteer.
BIKEIOWA has worked with Carl Voss on numerous projects over the last 20 years. We support him and we ask that you join us as we join him in the Iowa State Fair Parade!

All you need to know about walking/riding with Voss for City Council in the State Fair Parade!
Please arrive at our staging location (Lot 16 of Capitol Complex: NE of Capitol building) at
6 pm. Look for Entry 153 and people with Gold "Voss for City Council" t-shirts. You get one, too! We will also provide snacks and drinks!
The parade begins at 6:30 pm. The route runs from the Capitol Complex to 13th St. & Grand Ave. We strongly advise you park near the end of the parade and take the free "D-Line" shuttle. This shuttle runs between 17th St. and E 6th St. (west edge of Capitol grounds) until 6 pm, and bus riders can find stops along Grand Ave. and Locust St.
You can also drop off participants near the staging area and walk to the staging location. Note there will be many barricades up so this may be difficult.
The parade is just over 1.5 miles and mostly downhill. Please let Taylor Donaldson (
campaign@carlvoss.com) know immediately if you need mobility accommodations for the event. We are happy to help!
Additional notes:
- If you are riding a bike and under age 18, you MUST wear a helmet.
- We are NOT allowed to give out candy, stickers, or any literature. We will simply be walking/riding and waving in support of Voss for City Council.
- Consumption of alcohol at any point before or during event is not allowed.
- Need help upon arrival? Look for someone in a "Parade Official" t-shirt.
