Tis the Season and we found this great review on the Des Moines Commuter Corner Blog about Sportsman's Park near Dawson, IA along the Raccoon River Trail.

Dallas County Conservation oversees Sportsman Park and have been a BIKEIOWA sponsor for a few years now. Even before the North Loop was open.

Tent Camping is available, but small cabins are for rent too!

This is a great weekend get-away with a remote feel, but not too far off from near-by towns.FIND OUT MORE.

Des Moines Commuter Corner Review

There are lots of parks in Iowa with facilities for tent campers. But not many sit right off a bike trail.

Sportsman Park, just 1/2 mile east of Dawson IA on the Raccoon River Valley Trail, is a pleasant surprise. Just 40 or so miles from Des Moines on the new Dallas Center-Minburn-Perry leg of the trail, this park is a nice day-trip and a great place to stop for the night.

Rode my bike to this park from Des Moines twice this spring. Nice and clean place. It is a bummer that the bathroom/shower facilities where not accesible early in May, yet they espect you to pay full price. It is a small park that caters primaraly to trailers and hitch campers. I would not visit it during the summer. It would be too crowded and loud.

Stayed at these cabins last weekend, and they are great. My wife really liked the indoor private bathroom. Great place to "camp" but not camp.

Clean and have everything you need, even a mini fridge.
