A man has been charged following the death of a Keokuk, Iowa, boy who died in a bicycle crash earlier this week.

Chief David Hinton of the Keokuk Police Department has reported the arrest of Jeremy Gillette, 18, of Fort Madison, Iowa. Gillette is charged with Homicide by Vehicle, A Class C Felony.

The arrest comes after a fatal bicycle crash that happened on Monday at approximately6:57 p.m. in the areas of south7th and K St. in Keokuk. The crash killed Brandon Fitzgerald, 14.

After an investigation, police found that Fitzgerald was riding his bicycle and holding onto a 2012 Chevy Impala driven by Gillette. As Fitzgerald was being pulled by the Impala, he fell off the bike and landed on the pavement.

First Responders helped Fitzgerald on scene and he was transported by Lee County Ambulance to Unity Point Hospital, there he would succumb to his injuries.
