A prominent property developer and central Iowa's cycling community are facing off for a second time over a proposed road.

Knapp Properties wants a road to cross the Great Western Trail near Veterans Parkway.

The proposed at-grade crossing would be built near a development south of Highway 5.

After the Polk County Conservation Commission rejected the plan in a 4-1 vote, the company sought permission from Polk County supervisors.

Marc Gard, a Polk County resident who has biked for over 40 years, said an at-grade trail crossing can be a good thing, but not near housing developments.
