Jan 14th snow ride

Rode down to the RAGBRAI Ride Right meeting today. It was about 8 miles there. I was the only one who rode in. Got figure! It was 18 degrees with snow and ice.

The meeting let out at 1:00 and I met up with Ed Veak to get some more miles in so we took off toward the fairgrounds for something different, and then back around to the Neal Smith trail and then back to Ankeny.

Ed was riding his well equipped KHS Urban-X complete with studded tires. I was on the Lemond Cross bike with normal knobbies. I was surprised how well the bike handled on the ice and snow.

All in all - 22 miles of snowy goodness. The bike got a hot bath and a wipe down when I got home, and my goatee finally thawed out after a couple of hours!

Australia - Bicycles Outsell Cars. Again. For the Seventh Year.
Anyhow, it seems that in Australia, at least, bicycles continue to outsell cars. For the past year sales increased nine percent to just shy of 1.3 million bikes, which is over 300,000 more units that the total of cars sold. As the Cycling Promotion Fund (CPF) see it, this sales edge “comfortably exceeds the total sales of vehicle market leader Toyota.” They further suggest the growth is not just an increase in bikes for recreation, but also for daily travel. more...

Rudolph was a chick?
REMEMBER THIS AT CHRISTMAS TIME

According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, while both male and female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year, male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid-December. Female reindeer retain their antlers till after they give birth in the spring.

Therefore, according to EVERY historical rendition depicting Santa's reindeer, EVERY single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen, had to be a girl.

We should've known... ONLY women would be able to drag a fat man in a red velvet suit all around the world in one night and not get lost.
