  • Added some more news items and Ride Results.

  • Added some photos. Looks soon for lots more!

  • Another great Bike To Work event as the Ride with Boswell Ride took off on 39th and Grand headed for boswell's downtown East Village office. 35 cyclists showed up to ride into work with Congressman Boswell and Frank Cownie, the Des Moines Mayor. A small breakfast was had by cyclists after the ride.

  • Added and updated the Staging Locations.

  • Removed the Sycamore Access Staging Location.

  • Updated the Bike Home with Friends ride with contact, time and route information.

  • The WaterWorks Park Omnium Race has been cancelled due to flooding in Water Works Park. The race has been removed from the event calendar.

  • Updated the Why I Love To Commute witha couple of new comments.

May 13th
  • LIVESTRONG ride - WOW!! What a beautiful day for the 1st annual "Cityview's LIVESTRONG ride and Bike to the Ball Park" ride. 400 cyclists preregistered with 100 registering the day of the event. A sea of Yellow left Water Works Park, snaking through Gray's Lake and down the Meredith Trail toward Principal Park. Once at the ballpark, cyclists got a chance to ride around the field before parking their bikes, having a quick lunch and enjoying the game! THANKS to all those who helped coordinate this event.

    Specifically Bill Throckmorton from Bike World, Rebecca and Shane from Cityview.

  • The "Commuter of the Year" and "Advocate of the Year" were announced before the opening pitch. Congratulations to Jeff & Carl!!
    • Commuter of the Year - Jeff Mertz - After he began commuting 2 years ago, Jeff has lost over 70 pounds and is still commuting! He commutes 25 miles one way from home in Waukee to Meredith in downtown Des Moines. Jeff has also been racing this season and is a member of the Waukee City Council. With Jeff's busy schedule he still manages to commute daily
    • Advocate of the Year - Carl Voss - In the last 3 years, Carl has become involved with many successful bicycling projects in Des Moines. Carl has a knack for making the right contacts and turning dreams into realilty. A few of the projects include: Bike racks on buses, Bicycle lanes, Liberty Station bicycling parking, and working toward making Des Moines a "Bicycle-friendly community".

May 12th
  • Photos - Look soon for event photos. I'm waiting for a few others to send me photos so I can post at one time.

  • Packet Pick-Up - Thanks to the 300 or so cyclists who stopped out to the Bike To Work Packet Pick-up at the Des Moines Farmer's Market, and this is not counting the countless people who were just finding out about Bike To Work Week and all the upcoming activities.

  • Cyclo de Mayo Poker Rally - kicked off right after the Farmer's Market and entailed 5 stops around the greater metro area to pick up cards. The 12-15 miles race ended at the El Bait Shop. Cyclists with the best hands were crowned "winners" in several categories! Thanks to Graham for hosting a well thought out race!! - photos coming soon...

  • Pimp My Ride - Several cool bikes ranging from single-speeds to fixies to tourers to vintage were entered into the "Pimp My ride" bike show hosted by ACME International Bike Club. Shark's newly assemble flat-black and fire-red single-speed Tomassini took the overall prize!  - photos coming soon...

  • Added WaterWorks Park Omnium Race to the Des Moines Bike To Work Events. This will be the place to be Friday after work. Court Ave Brewing Co is providing two kegs of special goodness and there will be a commuter race between the circuit races. Show up, hang out or participate.

  • Added a good Top 10 List from D. Piper on why he Loves To Commute. Email Biker@bikeiowa.com with YOUR Stories!

  • 488 participants have registered so far!

  • Added Cyclo de Mayo Poker Rally to the Bike To Work Events

  • Updated the Staging Captain director to Terri Lilly. If you would like to volunteer to be a Staging Captain, email terlill@mchsi.com. Staging Locations are set according to participation and suggestion.

  • 380 participants have registered so far!

Mar 26th
  • Started to work on the Staging Locations for this year. Most locations should be similar to last year. Stay tuned

  • Boulevard Sports was removed from the list of participating bike shops.

  • 259 participants have registered so far! Get a friend or coworker to ride that week!

Mar 15th
  • The Sponsor page was updated. THANKS to all the sponsors!!

  • We are still finalizing local events for Des Moines

  • I've heard of several events that will be posted soon regarding Bike To Work events across the state! Stay tuned...

  • 198 cyclist have registered so far! Kudos to Curwood in Centerville for the 'Employer Participation' lead so far! and Krewebeadwhore for the Club Affiliation lead

  • The Cityview LAF ride will be COOL! wear your Yellow!

Feb 25th
  • Registration went LIVE today! A month earlier than normal.

  • All the Bike To Work events were added

  • The final poster was uploaded.

  • Updates we made to about every page on the Bike To Work site.

  • $1,000 in Bike BUCKS were confirmed! That's double what we were able to give away last year!

  • We have some very cool prizes coming for those who register for Bike to Work Week!

  • We are still looking for 3 sponsors at $500 each to help cover costs this year.

Jan 13th
  • Bike To Work 2007 went LIVE early this year!

  • Registration will open in late March.

  • Print out the Employer's guide and give it to you employer! Get them involved!
