UPDATE June 19th 2017: There *IS* a charge for camping at the campground. $10 per tent. And there are RV sites with 50 amp hookups next to it on the fairgrounds, they charge $15 per unit per night.

Looking to get away for the weekend? a sub-24?

Check out theJefferson Trailhead Campground. This is the first campground located on the Raccoon River Valley Trail runs adjacent to the trailhead in Jefferson. The campground is conveniently located between the Greene County Fairgrounds and the restored Milwaukee Railroad Depot and just outside downtown Jefferson.

It is FREE and there is a shelter house, plenty of area to pitch a tent, and there is a SHOWER and RESTROOM !

There are many places to eat and drink in Jefferson including convenience stores and a bike shop - All Ability Cycles.

Check out this cool video by Mark Wyatt of the Iowa Bicycle Coalition.

There is no official open and close date. They wait until its warm enough to open and cold enough to close. In 2016, it was November 1st. You can call the county conservation office to find out for sure if you are an early season or late season biker needing a place to stay.

What dates do they open and close. I'm betting the shower house is locked by now?
