When going to Decorah take your bike.

Not only is Decorah one of Iowa's coolest small towns they also have one of Iowa's best bike trails. It is only 10 miles long but it is truly unique in that it is not rails to trails and they wind you up and down the NE Iowa dells. Half of the trail is in town and half is south of town. Once you cross Highway 9 south, you are in the country and in the dells.

Decorah had great community support by local land owners to grant access to the trail. It makes for a unique hilly trail with tremendous overviews. In fact you go right by the bald eagles nest made popular by www.rapterresource.org.

When in Decorah be sure to check out the Toppling Goliath tap room. It is just off the bike trail and Toppling Goliath is one of Iowa's best micro brews. Also T-Bocks is a Decorah sports bar landmark. They have great beers on tap including Breckenridge Small Batch 471 IPA for $3.50 a pint. Mike Bockman owns the place and Ponyboy is the night mgr. Tell them Rob from DsM sent you and you get free peanuts all day long. Also if you want a place to stay the Hotel Winnesheik is a restored masterpiece.

Moreover, the road riding around there is awesome and bike friendly. Also if you want to stick to the trails there are trails nearby from Cresco to Calmar and Elgin to Cleremont. So when in the Decorah area take your bike.
