The Rolling Prairie Bike Trail will continue to grow thanks to a grant that was recently awarded to the Butler County Conservation Board. The REAP Grant, which is a program of the Iowa DNR, totals $190,000. The proceeds will be used to complete the trail into Wilder Park southeast of Allison, and will also extend the trail into Heery Woods State Park, south of Clarksville. The existing trail ends about a half mile east of Wilder Park, and a mile west of Heery Woods State Park. Conservation officials are anticipating the work will be completed next year. Planning continues for future expansion of the trail west of Allison into Franklin County, as well as completing and paving the segment from Shell Rock to Clarksville. A website has been developed to keep biking enthusiasts up to date on the expansion of this regional trail. The site can be found at www.rollingprairietrail.org.
