A bicyclist was killed and two other people, including a 4-year-old boy, were injured when a van struck them on a rural road in Palo Alto County Tuesday afternoon *June 26th).

The Iowa State Patrol reported that Luke B. Rouse, 36, of Emmetsburg, was killed.

Lacey J. Rouse, 33, of Emmetsburg, and Hank Rouse, 4, were injured, troopers reported. They were taken to Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg. A report on their condition wasn’t immediately available Wednesday.

Hank Rouse was a passenger on Lacey Rouse’s bike.

The collision happened on Palo Alto County Road N40 a half mile south of 330th Avenue, according to the State Patrol.

The Rouses were bicycling south, side by side, on N40, the State Patrol reported. A 2006 Dodge van operated by Duane F. Anderson, 83, of Estherville, was also southbound on that road.

State troopers reported that Anderson was adjusting the mirror on his vehicle and did not see the bicyclists. The van hit both of them.

The collision threw Luke Rouse and his bike into the ditch on the west side of the road. Lacey and Hank Rouse landed on the west shoulder of the road.
