IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG-TV9)-A proposal to reduce driving lanes and add bike lanes on two major roadways in Iowa City will in-part be discussed at a meeting Tuesday night.

City staff has been gathering feedback on a proposal to reduce Mormon Trek Boulevard from Highway 6 to Melrose Avenue from four lanes to two with a center turn lane. The move would also allow them to add bicycle lanes to the road.

A similar proposal is being considering to a portion of First Avenue.

On Tuesday the city council will vote on land easements on Mormon Trek Boulevard.

The discussion has created some controversy with bicycle advocates praising the idea while drivers have raised concerns about potential delays.

Regardless of what happens Tuesday, the council still needs to vote on the possible changes at a later meeting.
