OTTUMWA–The Wapello Rural Water Association (WRWA), a local water provider, is welcoming RABGRAI riders to Ottumwa with a splash. As the first business located on the RAGBRAI route into Ottumwa, the WRWA will be ready for riders as they enter the city on Thursday, July 28. A custom-built archway that features a water mister and a water bottle refill station will be in place near the route for riders to get a quick cool down as they cycle into Ottumwa.

“As one of the first businesses on the RAGBRAI route into Ottumwa, we’re in a prime location to welcome riders to our community and help make their experience here as refreshing as possible,” said Krista Huffman, general manager of WRWA.

The WRWA will have their cool down station situated near its office, at the corner of Shaul Avenue and Mary Street. The association’s office staff will be on-site to welcome riders, donning the bright yellow official RAGBRAI t-shirts.

The association partnered with local contractor and artist, S.W. Huffman, to build the metal archway, which riders will be able to ride underneath as they enter Ottumwa.

As riders continue their trek on Friday, July 29, they can stop by WRWA’s treatment plant – located south of Delta and on the RAGBRAI route – for another quick cool down. The archway and water bottle refill station will be in place for riders to catch their breath as they continue onto their next overnight stop in Washington. “Our staff is going all out for RAGBRAI, and we want to do our part to keep these riders hydrated,” says Huffman.

Wapello Rural Water Association has been satisfying customers in southeast Iowa with high quality water since 1976. The association strives to provide a quality product that will meet the needs and demands of over 7,000 users in Wapello, Mahaska, Davis, Jefferson, Keokuk and Washington counties.
