IOWA CITY (KWWL) -The Iowa City Downtown District partners with Think Bicycles of Johnson County to decide on the design of a new on-street parklet in the downtown area.
The team is now seeking proposals that include design, fabrication and installation of the parkletfrom qualified firms and contractors.
The main goal of the project is to add a unique on-street structure that enhances the lookof the street corner.
Other goals include creating additional safe and convenient bike parking downtown, providing an impactful visual cue of the community's ongoing commitment to bicycle usage and alternative modes of transportation, sustainability and possibilityfor re-use.
The team hopes for the parklet to be used from March to November each year,
The winning contractor will be required to make the parklet modular, so it can be removed and stored during off season, and re-installed at the beginning of the next season.
