Des Moines Police are asking for the public's help in identifying men who assaulted a bicyclist Sunday.

At about 10:35 p.m., a 65-year-old Des Moines resident was riding his bicycle south on the 2800 block of Southeast 14th Street when he was assaulted by two men, according to a police news release issued Thursday.

A witness described the suspects to police as white men, both in their 20s, who fled from the scene in a silver 1996-2003 era Pontiac Grand Prix four-door sedan.

The victim sustained serious injuries as a result of the assault and was still hospitalized Thursday, police said.

When police officers found the man Sunday, he was lying in the street, semi-conscious and bleeding from his mouth and nose, with a swollen eye and a cut lip, according to a police report. The witness told officers that the two suspects had punched the victim in his face, knocking him off of his bike.

Police ask anyone with information regarding the identities of these suspects or the associated vehicle to contact police at 515-283-4811 or Crime Stoppers of Central Iowa at 515-223-1400 or www.crimestoppersofcentraliowa.com.

Des Moines Police Sgt. Paul Parizek said officers have no information on what prompted the attack, and the incident is still under investigation.
