National Bike to Work Week will begin at Ames City Hall on Monday, May 16.

Ames Mayor Ann Campbell and members of the City Council will commemorate the kick-off to the week-long event by hosting a free Bike Commuter Continental Breakfast from 1 to 9 a.m. in front of City Hall, 515 Clark Ave. The breakfast is planned for outside, but if it rains, it will be moved into the City Hall foyer.

May is National Bike Month, and National Bike to Work Week is May 16 to 20. Ames residents are encouraged to bike to work, school, or around their neighborhood.

Community volunteer organizations such as the Ames Bicycle Coalition and Healthiest Ames are working in partnership with local businesses to encourage activities that promote cycling. Throughout the week, there are several commuter breakfasts, bicycle social hours, group rides and a commuter challenge.
