Local cycling springs into the season this weekend. The Quad Cities Bicycle Club and QC's Friends of Off-Road Cycling both have events to encourage the public to do a little spring cleaning in the garage and dust off those bikes after a long winter's nap.

The QCBC's second annual Spring Into Bicycling Open House is Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the lower reception area of Davenport's Freight House.

A FORC-backed cycling swap meet follows Sunday, noon to 3 p.m. at The Village Theatre in the Village of East Davenport. If you are selling old or unused bicycle gear, please RSVP atqcforc.orgto let organizers know how many tables to set up starting at 11:30 a.m. For those looking to buy, please feel free to just show up. The open house offers a one-stop shop to learn about the various rides offered throughout the year and talk with the QCBC's event organizers. The list of events include the QC Criterium, the Tour of the Mississippi River Valley, the QCBC's Time Trials and a number of self-contained weekend camping rides. Also offered is information on the club's RAGBRAI charter service and training rides, local events for National Bike Month in May, and the Bike to Work Week activities May 16-20.You also can learn about the various group rides available around the area as well as receive information to help navigate the process of becoming a bike commuter to work.

Bike maintenance demonstrations are featured at the open house, with riders learning to change a flat tire, repair a bike chain and perform a bike safety check.Participants in the free open house are invited to bring their own bikes and get some individual advice as well as join in a beginner leisure ride at noon.
