WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a Waterloo Police Officer hit a woman riding a bicycle.

According to the sheriff's office, the officer was on patrol in the area of W. 9th and Washington around 1:50 a.m. The officer was not responding to a call.

The woman went to the hospital. The sheriff's office says her injuries were minor.

The woman received citations for riding a bicycle without a light and violating 1-way traffic.

The officer is not currently facing any charges.

The Waterloo Police Department says the officer has not been placed on leave but is deferring to the sheriff's office for all other questions.
