A 12-year-old child riding his bicyclebroadsided a carTuesday morningat a crosswalk near Urbandale Middle School.
When
police arrived at Aurora Avenueat 6:56 a.m., theyfound a scraped-up
child whose bike collided with a car, said Urbandale Police Officer
Andrew Dobbins.
It was still darkand pouring rain as the child
attempted to enter the crosswalk atAurora Avenueto get to school,
Dobbins said. He was wearing dark clothing and didn't activate the
crosswalk lights, buta woman driving eastbound onAurora Avenuespotted
him attempting to cross.
She stopped and waved him along, Dobbins said.
That's
when another car, traveling westbound, suddenly spotted the child as
well. The driver slammed on his brakes, but the child pulled out and
broadsided the car, bending his front bike tire.
The child was taken to Mercy Medical Center with minor cuts and scrapesto his abdomen.
Officers are not considering filing charges against the drivers at this time, Dobbins said.
