A bicyclist was transported to Sartori Memorial Hospital
with non-life-threatening injuries after an accident with a pickup
shortly before 11 a.m. today, police said.The truck,
driven by Trevor Schmitt, 20, of West Des Moines was stopped at a red
light facing westbound on Greenhill Road at the intersection. The
bicycle, operated by Christine Peters, 61, of 815 W. 18th St., was on
the sidewalk southbound parallel with Hudson Road with a green light.
The
bicycle collided with the front end of the truck. Schmitt was cited for
failure to obey a traffic control device. There was minimal damage to
the bike, and no damage to the truck.
