Iowa City is already home to one of the premiercyclo-cross events in North America and athrivinglocal bicycling scene.
The
city could improve its cycling cachet even more next year, as local
leaders work to attract a World Cup event to the Johnson County
Fairgrounds.
With organizers preparing for theannual Jingle Cross
race-- a December cycling event that drew nearly 2,600 registered
riders last year to the fairgrounds -- they're also preparing to submit a
bid to host a future World Cup cyclo-cross competition.
Local cycling leaders are putting together a pitch this fallto Union Cycliste Internationale,the sport'sworld governing body, to bring one of the several cyclo-cross World Cup circuit dates to Iowa City in2016.
